30 Days. 600 km. Unsupported Ski Across Greenland.
The Expedition
On April 8th, 2024, the team will depart from Ikerasak, located on Baffin Bay. After skiing for 30 days and covering 600 km, they will arrive in Nyhavn at the edge of the Greenland Sea. This journey signifies a complete crossing of Greenland, the world's largest island.
The mission will be unsupported. Each team member will haul their provisions—including food, shelter, and radio equipment—in a sled weighing 100 lbs.
The expedition will feature Max Willner, who, at 19, will be among the youngest to ever cross Greenland. Additionally, at the age of 61, Mikael Strandberg will be recognized as one of the oldest individuals to achieve this feat.
Comparing the past to the present
The mission's objective is to illustrate the impact of climate change on the world's most significant ice cap: Greenland.
During our journey, we will photograph Greenland's glaciers. These images will be compared with those from previous years to highlight the effects of climate change on Greenland's ice.
Studying glacial retreat is crucial as it serves as an indicator of the Arctic's vulnerability to a warming climate. By comprehending this, we can gain a better understanding of the potential consequences of continued global warming and thereby advocate for more effective environmental and sustainable policies.

Mikael Strandberg
Stockholm, Sweden
Arguably the most formidable explorer of our generation, Mikael has crossed Siberia on skis, Patagonia by horse, Kenya on foot, and so many other things. While doing so, Mikael has made 7 documentaries and received 4 film awards. Mikael is currently a member of the Royal Geographic Society.
At 19 years of age, Max will embark on his first major expedition with Project Greenland. While this may be his inaugural large-scale journey, Max is well-versed in endurance sports. He's an avid snow-shoer and mountaineer and has set multiple record summit times in the Canadian Rockies. Moreover, he dedicated 8 years to rowing, earning a national ranking in Canada. Once the expedition concludes, Max will stand as the youngest North American to have ever crossed Greenland.
